Low Cost Hyperspectral Imaging Sensor (HSI)

Michelson type Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) hyperspectral imaging (HSI) sensors are used for standoff visualization and identification of chemical vapor plumes; however, currently available COTS sensors are expensive (>$750k), large (>100L), and massive (>30kg). MESH’s goal is to achieve a 10x cost reduction, 3x size reduction (<30L), and a 3x mass reduction (<10kg for optics and electronics) in order to support fixed site applications, man-portable sensing applications, and UAV/gimbal applications, which require a low cost and/or smaller size HSI sensor. New enabling technologies for this HSI approach include the micro-bolometer IR camera and the piezo-electric mirror drive.
